In order to be able to use the certificates which can be downloaded here: https://ssp.rbg.tum.de/zertifikat/ with the common linux mail client 'evolution', it is necessary to create a .p12 file from the private key and the certificate like this:

$ openssl pkcs12 -export -out cert.p12 -in name-date.crt -inkey 2023rbg.key

The created file can than be imported into gnome evolution under settings->certificates. In a second step under settings->email- accounts, the certificate can be selected in the account-settings to be used for an already existing account.
